The Yorktown Seniors of 2020: Sophie and Mila S. The tennis twins. I’m pretty sure that’s Mila on the left and Sophie on the right. Wait, maybe that’s Sophie...No, I got it. Definitely Mila on left—she’ll be attending the University of Georgia next year while her sister will be heading next door to South Carolina. Here’s Mila’s last couple of years: “I’ve played tennis since I was about 5 years old. This year would have been my 4th and final year on the YHS tennis team and my 2nd year as captain. For the past two years, we have been district champions and for the past three years we have just fallen short of making it to the state level competition. Last year, I had an undefeated record in our conference and won MVP. This year, I was hoping to continue that record and help lead the team to more victories. I think the thing that saddens me the most about the year ending early (besides prom and graduation) is that I love photography! I am currently in AP Photography and this year I would have gotten to submit my portfolio and individual pictures to the College Board as a grade. We still get to do this, but it is all digital rather than getting to print and mat my photos, something I’ve looked forward to doing for four years worth of photography classes. And here’s Sophie: “I’ve played tennis all four years of high school, where our team was three-time district champions. During this pandemic, I’m missing out on senior experience where I was really excited to work at a physical therapy practice, which is what I want to do when I’m older. I’m also missing my senior season of tennis so I’ll never have a senior night. That’s really disappointing after three years of planning senior nights for others.” It’s the little things like that mean a lot to these seniors. Let’s hear it for Mila and Sophie, Yorktown senior Class of 2020.
