Here’s a special entry, and someday he’ll hopefully tell his grandchildren (no rush!): the very first subject of this little project we’ve started. Evan (and his football buddy Henry S.) we’re kind enough to be my first “test” cases for the “Not Forgotten” essay. Like any project, you kind of want to see if it’s viable before you attempt your first takeoff. I don’t think a lot the Yorktown seniors are familiar with the great 1979 movie “Breaking Away,” but in that film a very young Dennis Quaid plays a former high school football quarterback who’s not sure what to do now that football is over. (It’s actually the greatest cycling movie ever made, but that’s a story for another day.) Anyway, that was the mental image I had in my head when I set out to start this project. A feeling of longing, a feeling of loss, a feeling of something unfairly taken away. I give you: Evan R., Yorktown football.
Location: Arlington, Virginia.
